We have had another successful year with the club with many new members joining to
enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere we strive to achieve.
Our monthly events have been well attended and PCAV Park continues to provide us with
a user friendly venue.
We ran two open events in March and October and had very positive
feedback from the riders that attended. Our October competition was proudly sponsored
by Bendigo Bank and we had Hygain horse feeds on board to sponsor our March
competition. Thanks to Catrina Corten for her efforts in securing those sponsors for us
and a huge thanks to the sponsors for their support of the club. We ran a raffle at both
events and the money raised was donated to the Need for Feed disaster relief
organisation.
We ran a special 2 day workshop concentrating on ringcraft and test riding with Catrina
Corten and the members that attended were very grateful for Catrina’s expertise and to
get an insight into what the judges are really looking for to give you that elusive 10. We
plan to run this event again in September this year.
We had organised to have our Xmas function at the Yarra Valley Polo event but
unfortunately the weather gods decided to flood the venue so only water polo was on the
menu. We instead enjoyed a delicious lunch at our December club day.
A few of our members attended a meeting at Healesville in April to hear about the
possibility of having a new equestrian facility built at the grounds of the Yarra Glen and
Lilydale Hunt club. The venture is in the stages of trying to get funding to make it a viable
project. It would be an amazing asset to the Yarra Valley Equestrian community. The
project has a Facebook page and web page where you can view the exciting plans. We
have also put these details in our newsletters to inform members of this project. It would
be a fantastic home for our club.
Our next open competition in October will be a fundraiser for Bridget Murphy to help her
continue towards her efforts of riding in the Para Olympics in 2020.
To finish up I would like to personally congratulate all the winners of the club trophy awards.
I really enjoy watching the regular riders improve each month and the partnerships they
have with their horses.
Would like to thank my committee members of which a few take on most of the workload.
I would be lost without Jenny Wall and Janice but you all do a fabulous job and give up
your own time for the benefit of others.
In order for the club to continue to provide monthly events we really need some new people
to come on the committee to push forward to the future. I really would like to step back in
a year or so and hopefully get to ride my own horse and enjoy the days. So if not this year
then maybe next some of you may like to get involved and give back to the sport that gives
so much enjoyment to you all.
Thanks also to all the members that volunteer and help at our monthly events and our
open competitions. As they say no volunteers no events so we couldn’t do it without you.
